The President of the Republic Mr Nicos Christodoulides received a congratulatory message from the President of France Mr Emmanuel Macron, on the occasion of the Independence Anniversary of the Republic of Cyprus.
In his message, President Macron said the following.
I look forward to jointly consolidating the bonds of friendship and trust that characterise the relationship between our two countries, as we recalled together last May during your visit to France. Moreover, just recently, the multilateral military exercise EUNOMIA, led this year by France, demonstrated the strength of the strategic ties that unite us.
The relationship between France and Cyprus is close, dynamic and forward-looking. It is rooted in our shared commitment to the unity, stability and sovereignty of our continent, as demonstrated by the European Union's unanimous support for Ukraine, which is facing Russia's unjustified war of aggression.
I welcome the convergence of the positions of France and Cyprus within the European Union and international organisations, including the United Nations and the Council of Europe, which is a sign of our common priorities.
France remains committed to the principle that an open, peaceful and constructive dialogue will pave the way for a permanent and just solution to the Cyprus question, on the basis of the parameters established by the United Nations. You know that you can count on France's continued support in this matter.
I hope that the coming months will allow us to deepen our bilateral relations, which are excellent, in particular as regards education, Francophonie, economic cooperation and cooperation in the field of defence."
