There are ongoing processes in relation to the Pyla issue, President of the Republic Nicos Christodoulides said today.
In his statements this afternoon to journalists, while attending the unveiling ceremony of the Memorial of the Fallen and Missing of 1974 of the Community of Achna, the President of the Republic, asked whether the issue of Pyla has been resolved, said: "There is nothing to be announced so far. There are ongoing processes, hopefully there will be a conclusion. What we are interested in, I have said many times, is to ensure the status of the buffer zone, to ensure that there is not any comparative advantage for the Turkish occupation forces. There is an ongoing discussion, there is no result."
To a reporter's remark that the United Nations has unofficially reported that an agreement has been reached, the President said: "I cannot speak for the United Nations. I am speaking on behalf of the Republic of Cyprus and I can tell you that there is no conclusion as we speak. There are, even now, processes underway."
Asked if any proposals were given that were rejected by either the Government or the Turkish side, the President said: "If there is an ongoing discussion, it is not right for me to start speaking in public. What I am interested in is an outcome in the direction I have mentioned to you."
