The United Arab Emirates supports the Cyprus Government's Climate Change Initiative, Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment Mr. Costas Kadis.

In his statements to journalists on the sidelines of the visit of President Nicos Anastasiades to Dubai. Kadis said that "today I had a very interesting and constructive meeting with the UAE Minister of Climate Change and Environment, in the context of which we examined ways of cooperation between the two countries on broader environmental issues.

Specifically, I informed the Minister about the developments observed in relation to the Initiative undertaken by Cyprus for the coordination of the countries of our wider region on climate change issues and about the results of the recent Ministerial Conference.

I informed the Minister about the developments observed in relation to the Initiative undertaken by Cyprus for the coordination of the countries of our wider region on climate change issues and about the results of the recent Ministerial Conference.

I note that the Minister and the UAE support the Cypriot initiative and the Minister was one of the speakers at the recent Ministerial Conference.

For her part, the Minister briefed me on the arrangements for the next Global Climate Conference, which will be held here in Dubai.

We also discussed a number of other areas of cooperation on which we are jointly preparing a Memorandum of Understanding, which will include, in addition to regional cooperation in the field of Climate Change, issues related to sustainable waste management, the framework of the principles of the circular economy, issues related to ensuring food sufficiency and safety. And here we were very pleased to see that a similar philosophy to that developed in the EU under the 'farm to plate' strategy is also being developed here in the UAE. They also want to ensure here that they have a sufficient supply of food that is produced using environmentally friendly approaches.

We will include these issues, as well as those that have to do with sustainable agriculture, with water management. We are in a region where water scarcity is a problem and we have to learn from each other. I have invited my counterpart to visit Cyprus in the context of the next Ministerial Conference that will take place on our Climate Change Initiative next June, an invitation that she has accepted and I hope to have her in Cyprus this summer."
