After my statements this morning, there followed reports and allegations of possible involvement of active police officers in the case of the Holy Monastery of Saint Abbacum, in addition to the two I had already mentioned.
Based on these facts, I proceeded to consult with both the Attorney General and the Assistant Attorney General. The latter, exercising the powers granted to him by the relevant legislation, appointed two criminal investigators with two objectives:
- a) to safeguard the objectivity and impartiality of the investigation conducted by the Police, in particular following the allegations of possible involvement of active police officers, and
- b) to further strengthen the investigative team to enable it to investigate in depth all aspects of the case, including the allegations of involvement of active police officers.
I reiterate the Government's determination to fully investigate this serious case, without discounts, suspensions or reservations, and anyone with evidence, names or other testimonial material would be advised to bring it before the relevant investigating authorities.
