The Consumer Protection Service (CPC) of the Ministry of Energy, Trade and Industry, as the competent authority in Cyprus for the operation and management of the European System for the Rapid Exchange of Information on Dangerous Non-Food Products, informs consumers that during the week starting 08/04/24 (RAPEX - Report 15) 49 products presenting a risk to their health and safety have been notified to the System. These products were identified in the markets of various Member States of the European Union and subsequently notified to the RAPEX Safety Gate System.

Consumers can find out about the dangerous products on the website of the CPS.

The 49 products were distributed for market surveillance purposes as follows.

  1. Eight (8) to the Consumer Protection Agency.
  2. Fourteen (14) to the Department of Labor Inspection.
  3. Eight (8) in the Department of Road Transportation.
  4. Seven (7) in the Department of Pharmaceutical Services.

  7. Two (2) in Health Services.
  8. One (1) in Health Services - Waste Management Division.

The products relevant to the Consumer Protection Service, and the corresponding associated risks, are described in this table.

Please note that products with serial numbers 1 to 7 have been assessed by the European Commission as posing a serious risk, while product number 8 has been assessed by the European Commission as posing a lower risk.

The Consumer Protection Agency calls on importers, distributors and retailers who may have such products available to immediately stop making them available and to notify the Agency.

The Consumer Protection Service also invites consumers, in case they possess the above products, to stop using them and return them to the seller, i.e. to the store where they were purchased, and at the same time inform the seller accordingly.

It should be noted that, according to the Consumer Protection Law of 2021, in case of purchase of an unsafe product, the consumer is entitled to a replacement of the product, so that the product complies with the terms of the sales contract. If this is not possible, then the consumer is entitled to withdraw, i.e. to return the product to the seller and receive a refund of the full amount paid. It is recalled that the above rights are valid for a period of two years from the initial delivery of the product to the consumer and that the final seller is always solely responsible towards the consumer.

In the event that the seller refuses to comply with the above rights of the consumer, the consumer is invited to submit a written complaint via the website of the Consumer Protection Service.
