[PIO] Elections 2024 - Declaration of MEPs: Statements by the General Secretary of AKEL

Today, 11 June 2024, at the Filoxenia Conference Centre in Nicosia, the ceremony of proclamation of the six newly elected Cypriot Members of the European Parliament took place.

In his statement to journalists, the General Secretary of the Workers' and Workers' Party (AKEL), Mr Stefanos Stefanou, said the following. I would also like to welcome the media here, the journalists. Let me first of all congratulate the Election Service and all those who worked for the double electoral process, which was an unprecedented process for Cyprus, and I think that the task of conducting the elections smoothly has been achieved.

AKEL in these elections has elected an MEP, George Georgiou, who has a valuable experience from the functioning and action of the European Parliament. And we will of course use this experience in order for AKEL Left Social Alliance to continue to be a force of assertion first and foremost for our Cyprus and our people, through the European Parliament, but more generally through our action in the European Union.

At the same time, AKEL Left Social Alliance with its presence in the European Parliament will continue to claim the best for European societies, European states and European peoples.
