The Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth (MESY) announces that, based on the announcements and the Governance Programme of the President of the Republic, is proceeding with the complete reform of the student assessment system in Secondary General and Secondary Technical and Vocational Education and Training, in consultation with all partners.

In this context and with the aim of providing pedagogical support to all students in secondary schools, high schools and technical schools, the Ministry of Education and Science is proceeding with improvement measures on the issue of the examination in the second quarter of the current school year. Specifically, the Ministry will propose to reduce the weighting of the written examination of the second quarter of the 2022-23 school year from 40% to 20%, through legislation, as well as to reduce the examination material to 60% of what has been taught. In addition, a monitoring mechanism has already been put in place to supervise the subject matter and control the difficulty level of the examination essays in order to avoid additional stress and burden on students' academic progress. Instructions were also given for the proper use of teaching time.

The Ministry of Education and Science specifies that it is taking all necessary steps to ensure that the planning for the rest of the current school year is reconfigured on the basis of the above. School units will be informed in detail with relevant circulars as soon as possible.

The full planning on the issue of student assessment, with the abolition of the current system of four-month periods, which will apply from the 2023-24 school year, will be announced before the end of this academic year.
