The Department of Energy's Consumer Protection Agency, Commerce and Industry as the Competent Authority for the implementation of the General Safety of Products Laws and the Basic Requirements to be Met by Certain Categories of Products Laws, during the months of July and August, proceeded to withdraw from the Cypriot market products which were found to pose serious risks to the health and safety of consumers or did not comply with the relevant provisions of the legislation.

Recommendations - Warnings

The Consumer Protection Service calls on consumers in possession of the withdrawn products to stop using them and return them to the seller, i.e. the shop from which they were purchased, while informing it accordingly.

It should be noted that, according to the Law on Certain Aspects Concerning Contracts for the Sale of Goods of 2021, in case of purchase of an unsafe product, the consumer is entitled to a replacement of the product so that the product complies with the terms of the sales contract. If this is not possible, then the consumer is entitled to withdraw, i.e. to return the product to the seller and receive a refund of the full amount paid.

Recall that the above rights apply for a period of 2 years from the initial delivery of the product to the consumer and that the final seller is always solely liable to the consumer.

In case the seller refuses to comply with the above rights of the consumer, the consumer is invited to submit his/her complaint in writing through the website of the Consumer Protection Service.

Finally, consumers are reminded that they can be informed about dangerous products detected in the EU via the website of the Consumer Protection Service or via the website of the Rapid Exchange of Information on Dangerous Products (Safety Gate).
