"I welcome you tonight to the Presidential Palace, to an event that has become an institution and we are here to support such initiatives.

I would like to focus on three points concerning the Karaiskakio Foundation that make us proud both as a Government and as a State.

The first one concerns the Donor Bank, one of the largest donor banks in existence.

The second is the participation of Turkish Cypriots, because there is an important dimension here, because the participation of Turkish Cypriots in the Donor Bank of Karaiskakeion is the largest bilateral cooperation that exists in the Republic of Cyprus since 1960.

The third is that Karaiskakeion, through its multi-level work, has emerged as a centre of excellence for our country. We are particularly proud when our country hosts such centres of excellence.

By extension, I highlight the fact that Karaiskakio has given transplants to people who needed them in more than 34-35 countries, thus highlighting our country and what our country can offer.

And I would like to mention, on the basis of a personal experience, that when I was Foreign Minister on three occasions, when I visited countries in the region - I was not aware of it - it was pointed out to me by my interlocutors this important dimension of the work that Karaiskakeio is doing.

I can assure you that the support of the State will not only continue but will be further strengthened, since the Minister of Health comes from within Karaiskakio."

It is noted that during the ceremony, the Board of Directors of Karaiskakio warmly thanked the President and the First Lady for their enduring support to the Foundation to the fullest extent.
