It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to today's presentation of the results of the Completion Report of the Contract for the Evaluation of the Structures and Curricula of the Public School of Higher Vocational Education and Training MIEEK by the contractor, the Frederick-Talos consortium. The evaluation of the Structures and Curricula of the Public School of Higher Education and Training of MIEEK is one of the most important procedures for ensuring the effectiveness and modernization of technical and vocational education in our country.

The primary objective of this primary data survey was to determine the degree of quality of the structures and programmes of MIEEK. Through the evaluation of the results of the survey, the aim is to investigate the contribution of MIEEKs to the employability of their graduates and their linkage with the labour market, as well as to offer opportunities for young people to acquire, improve or upgrade professional qualifications and skills in order to make them more capable and competent to participate in the labour market. In addition, it seeks to investigate the extent to which MIEEKs provide scientific, technical and vocational knowledge and skills and, at the same time, their degree of flexibility and adaptability to the rapid changes in employment and the economy. A very important objective of the survey was also to assess the degree of satisfaction of employers with the employment of graduates of MIEEK, as well as the satisfaction of the graduates themselves with the suitability and adequacy of the building infrastructure, their employability, the curricula and their relationship with the labour market, the pedagogical methods of the trainers, their competitiveness in the labour market, the efficiency of the structures and their career prospects.

At this point I would like to stress the particular importance that the Government, through its governance programme, attaches to technical and vocational education and training, noting that the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth has already included the upgrading and strengthening of the public MIECS school among its ten flagship actions and policies, according to the Action Plan it has drawn up for 2023-2024.

At the same time, I would like to note that the Directorate of Secondary Technical and Vocational Education and Training has adopted a targeted policy to ensure the future operation of the School and its continuous development, prioritizing the quality assurance of the education provided. The focus of this policy is, among other things, the systematic development of new certified curricula and the expansion of existing ones to other provinces according to the requirements of the local labour markets.

Particular importance is also attached to upgrading the material and technical infrastructure and equipment of the MIEEKs, so that their students have the opportunity to have contact with modern methods applied in the workplace at local and international level. Already, since this academic year, the new, state-of-the-art building of MIEEK "Absolute Institute of Technical Education" in Limassol is fully operational. This building has state-of-the-art laboratories, infrastructure and equipment and offers five programmes of study in nine evening and morning classes.

It is therefore with great satisfaction that I note that, as a result of the successful operation and the remarkable work carried out at the MIEEKs, their graduates secure jobs in sectors of the economy that are relevant to their programme of study at a rate of almost 100%. Taking into account the fact that, together with the objective of further upgrading and expanding the MIEEKs, their institutionalisation under the umbrella of the Directorate of Secondary Technical and Vocational Education and Training is being promoted, it is expected that their successful operation so far will be further strengthened.

As important pillars of this success, I warmly congratulate both the Director General of the Council of MIEEKs and the Director of Secondary Technical and Vocational Education and Training, Mr. Ilias Markatzis and the officials of this Directorate who, through their zeal and professionalism, provide decisive support for the work that is being carried out.

I am sure that MIEEK will continue to play a leading role in vocational education at tertiary level and to be in this area the preeminent example of good practical post-secondary education in our country.
