It is a special pleasure for me to be with you today, at the presentation of the programs of the Interactive Learning Center "Loukas Purooulis", here at the Pancyprian Gymnasium, this historic school, which, along with the reconstruction and restoration of its buildings, is now upgrading and modernizing its operation with innovative actions, which fully meet the educational needs of modern times.

An era in which modern technologies have dominated all areas of our everyday life, forcing all of us to become familiar with their uses and functions. The constant evolution and the introduction of the Internet have had an equal impact on the functioning of the traditional classroom and on teaching practice, making it necessary for teachers and pupils to acquire the necessary skills.

Teachers and schools, which for decades have been the main source of knowledge, are now called upon to adapt to the new realities in order to contribute to the development of children as future fully-fledged citizens, who will be able to function effectively in a In this context, recognizing the rapid changes taking place in the technological field, we seek to adapt our education system accordingly.

Implementing the Governance Programme, and continuing the good practices of the previous administration, our main objective is the transition to the modern school. The enrichment of educational practice with modern educational materials based on digital technology, as well as new methodological approaches that meet the needs of students, is the goal. The interactive learning, virtual and augmented reality programmes presented here today make a decisive contribution in the above direction and make education exciting and perfectly adapted to the abilities and learning pace of each child. Through these programmes, with the use of appropriate equipment, innovative materials and original tools, each child, having the possibility of experiential exploration, acquires an active role in the learning process and in the construction of knowledge, while learning outcomes are clearly improved.

In this process, which requires the adoption of interactive learning tools, virtual and augmented reality as an integral part of learning, the role of teachers continues to be the most important. In the digital world, teachers are called upon to be guides, advisors and companions in children's interesting journey, encouraging them to explore, observe and discover through knowledge and inferences, as well as tapping into their inexhaustible curiosity. Given the importance of the Centre at the Pancyprian Gymnasium, the creation of which was made a priority by the Ministry, I would like to make special mention of Mr. Loukas Puroulli. Mr. Purooullis' encouragement and contribution, as a result of his sensitivity and his love for our country and in continuation of his wider social contribution, was decisive for the creation and operation of the Centre, which rightly and honourably took his name.

It is particularly important that this effort be interconnected with other efforts aimed at the full utilization of new technologies in teaching, such as, for example, the creation of the Centre, which was rightly and honourably named after him.

On behalf of the State, I would like to express my sincere thanks to Mr. Purooullis, both for his long-standing contribution to our country and for this specific contribution, which, together with funds raised from the Recovery and Resilience Plan, made the operation of the Centre possible.

In addition, I would like to thank the current and previous management and staff of the Pancyprian Gymnasium, the Ephorate of Greek Schools of Nicosia, as well as all those who worked to carry out and make available to the educational and student community this important work.

I am absolutely sure that this model school of our country, which was adorned by great teachers, will continue the vision of its founders and benefactors, which was none other than to become a centre of knowledge and contribution to the progress and prosperity of our country. To this direction, I have no doubt that all of you, dear and dear teachers, will once again actively contribute.
