In winter, quite often, you will see your scale number go up, without necessarily being able to explain why.
And this, of course, within the limits of normalcy, has its explanation.
Of course, I am not referring to cases where someone may have gained several extra kilos.
But what are the reasons why in winter, your scale number changes?
- Very low temperatures
When the outside temperature is low enough, our body needs more energy, and therefore calories, to cope with the cold. This often leads you to choose foods that are particularly calorific, and to eat larger quantities than you are used to.
- You're not as active
Let's be honest, when it's raining and very cold, you're more likely to put off your gym, walking or running. And this, can happen several times during the week or even the month. This results in your mid-day burn rate being significantly reduced. And as we know, when we consume more calories than we spend, the number on the scales increases mathematically.
- Not drinking enough water
It is all too common, due to low temperatures, to not take in enough fluids. In the summer, because of the heat, you will drink more water. In winter, however, things are reversed and you are often dehydrated. This in itself can lead to constant snacking or eating foods rich in calories and fat, such as crackers, chips, biscuits, chocolates, and can confuse your feelings of hunger and thirst, which are very often confused.
- You stay at home more
Combined with all of the above, in winter you can be the definition of a "house cat". Surely the long hours on the couch create a feeling of boredom and boredom, which will push you to order your favorite junkfood, snack or spend the night with your favorite chips.
These are the reasons why in winter, you may see, even if only temporarily, your scales go up. Of course, there is no problem, and no reason to panic if you just put on 2-3 kilos. It's perfectly normal and now you know why.
In any case, what's worth remembering is to stay active during the day, don't forget your water and plan your meals. This way, the odds are on your side.
