The Scouts' Day of Thought is celebrated this weekend, the international day of scouts throughout Cyprus which has been set for the 22nd of February with the organization of events in all the cities.
According to Maria Charalambidou District Scout Curator of Paphos, it is the organization of the same event but in different venues, adding that there is blood donation, collection of toys, books and other items to be given to families in need.
He added that there is also collection of towels, old blankets and dog food which are given to dog shelters.
In a statement to CNA, Charalambidou said that the Paphos Scouts are contracted with the Karaiskakio Hospital and are registering for bone marrow donors. Action, she added, which will be repeated on Sunday at the Mall of Paphos at 11:00 - 14:00, where with their own crew they will proceed with registrations for bone marrow donors while every half an hour they will have scouting presentations.
She explained that the event will involve various scouting activities such as how to make knots, first aid courses, etc. It will be, he said, an insight into what goes on in scouting. At the same time, the actions of the scouts will be shown in a video.
Charalambidou said that the pandemic has had a great impact on scouting. As she said, it has been almost two years that they have been largely underutilized. There were online activities, she added, but it is not the same.
According to her, there are three Scouting Systems operating in Paphos, the 52nd Paphos Scout System which is housed next to the Church of Agioi Anargyroi in Kato Paphos, the 103rd Naval Scout System of Kissonerga and the 266th Aerial Scout System of Geroskipou which stands next to the B Municipal School of Geroskipou. Geroskipou, he said, is also home to the Paphos Provincial Ephorate of Scouts. He added that meetings in Paphos continued to be held every Saturday 15:00 - 17:00.
He spoke of a great need for scouts and volunteers, noting that scouting is a healthy way of acting and giving to our children and ourselves.
