The holidays may be different this year, but a guide on how to avoid the hangover is always important! Read important tips on how to avoid and deal with the unwanted effects of the hangover

A lot is heard every day about nutrition and what the perfect diet is...

But the secret lies in constantly incorporating small changes into our daily routine, even during the holidays.

  • Don't stay hungry all day to eat at the evening meal, as this will lead to gluttonous eating. Have a light snack (ex: a salad) before the festive dinner.
  • Avoid overconsumption of alcohol:

1 glass of champagne - 170 calories

1 glass of gin and tonic - 165 calories

1 glass of wine - 90 calories and if sweet 150 calories

[/p]
  • At the festive table fill your plate once, accompany it with a salad and consume it without haste.
  • Choose whole wheat bread and avoid extra butter, mayonnaise or other sauces.
  • Watch out for dishes that are considered "light". "Light" dishes on holiday days may be a little lighter. It doesn't mean you can eat them in moderation.
  • Chew your food slowly and eat small and frequent meals (3-6) to keep you feeling full throughout the day.
  • And as for dessert. .....ask yourself if you really need it and if yes then consume it in moderation, e.g., 1 quesadilla or 1 gingerbread or 1 side or some fruit salad or another dessert with fruit.
  • Keep a food diary by recording what you eat, how much you eat, when you eat it and why you eat it and if one day is abused you can be more careful the next.
  • Walk around the neighborhood, dance around the house... just get moving!

How to avoid the Hangover this holiday season

Maybe you've had a little too much to drink one night and the next morning you feel like you're sick

.

This in English is called a hangover and is the symptom of a toxic liver attack.

The liver is the organ that "cleans" (filters) alcohol and depending on your height, weight, gender, age and body type, what you drink, the amount you drink and in combination with what you eat can increase your chance of getting a hangover

.[/b]

Every person is different and their body works differently, but remember that most people usually can't process more than one serving of drink - 1 glass (120ml) of wine (red or white) or 1 glass (240ml) of beer or 1 glass (60ml) of spirits - per hour. The more fat you have in your body, the more difficult it is for the body to process alcohol.

Below are 5 tips to avoid a hangover:

-Eat. The more you eat, the more you filter the symptoms of alcohol[/b]. But be careful because overeating can lead to overconsumption of alcohol and consequently to weight gain.

-Drink while you drink! But water! Drink a glass of water with every drink.

-Drink after you drink! Water again! Alcohol dehydrates the body so that you feel bad the next morning. Drink plenty of water before you go to bed.

-Know which drink is bad for you. Some people are quite sensitive to some types of alcohol such as red wine. Good choices are light beer (light because it has less alcohol) and soda wine. A bloody Mary (tomato juice with vodka) contains fewer calories than a sea breeze or a screw driver (because these contain fruit juice). Avoid drinks that contain a combination of alcohol and fruit juice or other regular soft drinks because they contain too much sugar and too many calories (e.g. margaritas and daiquiris).

-Think before you sleep. Don't take painkillers before you go to sleep. If you need to take them when you wake up. Before you go to bed eat a snack, such as bread with a little honey, drink a glass or two of water and then go to sleep. The next morning, drink a strong coffee, take an analgesic and avoid alcohol for the rest of the day, thus "resting" your body.
