DISY has a candidate and will rally Nicos Anastasiades clarifies his position for the presidential elections

Anastasiades clarifies his position for the presidential elections.

In an interview with Alpha TV and journalists Giorgos Kaskanis and Nicolas Zanettos, President Nicos Anastasiades sent a clear message that DISY has a candidate and that he supports Averof Neophytou. And he expressed the position that the party will rally.

"Let me make something clear. I am born and bred of this party. I have served it from all posts. Either as a member of parliament or as an official. It is not possible, even if I abstain from party activities, to be indifferent to the party in which I grew up politically, in which I was promoted to various internal party offices, do not forget that I was President of the party for 16 years and in which I also emerged as President of the Republic. I am therefore interested and particularly interested in the party rank and file. Party order in the sense of respect for the rules of the party. My position cannot be in the party mantle i.e. to go out shouting hurrah for the A candidate or the B candidate, but I have clearly stated that for me, he who is chosen as the party's candidate is also my candidate. I will support him until the end I will consider him to be the representative of the party," he said.

And he said that he does not consider DISY to be divided, while he was asked whether he has any communication with Nikos Christodoulides.

"From time to time, of course. I have telephone contact. Nikos Christodoulides is not an enemy in the sense of an opponent. He has the right to have his noble ambitions, of course my opinion is different as far as the course he should follow is concerned," the President said.

Asked by journalists George Kaskanis and Nicolas Zanettos whether the election has started early, he expressed the view that there is no election at this time. "At this time there are consultations for partnerships, choices", he said.

Asked to comment, among other things, that it was DISY that first opened the "dance", he said that he is not involved in party affairs. "As we know, since I have been elected president, I have never been involved or participated in election processes," he said.

As he said, his priority in this last year of his administration is the implementation of his promises. "The goal is to implement to the maximum extent possible the announcements of my election manifesto. A program that includes reforms, digital transition, modernization of institutions, it includes creating solid foundations for the economy, but most importantly it includes the creation of a truly welfare state that meets the needs of citizens or the obligations of the state towards citizens. About 90 to 95% of the promises have been implemented," the President said. And he noted that some still remain, whether they are development projects and reforms that unfortunately often meet the different views of political parties. "There are important reforms, one concerns the judiciary where I believe the problems will be overcome and the other one which is problematic and concerns the local administration."
