Wizz Air has grounded just over 20% of its fleet due to maintenance difficulties with Pratt & Whitney engines.

According to Flightradar24, the airline's fleet consists of 204 Airbus family aircraft, of which 44 have not flown for some time.

Most of these planes were grounded in January this year, but a few were grounded as early as 2023. Thus, 1 plane has not flown since August, 2 airliners on the ground since September, 3 since October and 2 since November. One of the planes (HA-LZJ) has been flying regularly from Larnaca and back for a few months and has been in the Czech Republic since January.

The shortage of planes has led to adjustments in Wizz Air's schedule. Thus, from Larnaca the company canceled flights to Vienna in April-May, reduced frequency on flights to Hungary (Debrecen and Budapest), no tickets are on sale to Copenhagen, as well as Dammam, Riyadh and Jeddah.

If the planes do not return to the skies in the foreseeable future, it is possible that the schedule will still change. However, the president of Wizz Air told In-Cyprus that these are temporary difficulties and as soon as the planes are restored, destinations will return to the schedule and new routes are expected to be introduced.
