The statements of the Vice-President of the European Commission, Mr.Margaritis Schinas, on the management of the migration issue by the Cypriot Government, constitute recognition of our policy as an example to follow. Mr. Schinas' statements, as expressed during his recent visit to our country and in his interview published today in the newspaper "Politis", are of particular importance and significance and reflect the correctness of the approach and the effectiveness of the policy implemented over the last 12 months by the Christodoulides Government.
Reports such as "small Cyprus is emerging as a European return champion with very significant successes", "without any doubt this time may be the best time in the management of migration (...) Cyprus is succeeding", "the bottom of the barrel has been put in the migration issue, i.e. migration management is being put on a more stable footing", they honour our country and reward our efforts.
At the same time, however, we are not complacent. We know that migration is here to stay and is a complex problem that is influenced by exogenous factors and can change at any time. As a Government, we declare our commitment to continue and strengthen the successful actions to improve the data on migration, with the European Union as our firm supporter.
I am sure that the EU's assistance will be equally decisive in the issue of the reassessment of the Syrian regime, an issue on which the Republic of Cyprus has been developing an initiative since last summer.
