The President of the Republic, Mr.Nicos Anastasiades had a meeting with the Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus, Mr.Colin Stewart, at the Presidential Palace today.
During the meeting, the UN's efforts to resume the negotiation process and the need to appoint an envoy with specific terms of reference based on UN parameters, in order to create the appropriate conditions for the implementation of the effort, were discussed.
In addition, the essential Confidence Building Measures presented by the President of the Republic on 31/12/2020, which, as explained, will bring mutual benefits for the two communities while at the same time will assist in the effort to create the necessary conditions for the resumption of the dialogue, were put on the table again.
Practical issues concerning the fulfilment of the mission of the Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus were also discussed.

The President of the Republic expressed our side's observations on the recent report of the Secretary-General, while he noted our side's satisfaction with the content of the resolution adopted by the Security Council on the extension of the mandate of the Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus.
