The Turkish occupation regime is attempting to create new facts within the buffer zone in the Pyla area, planning an illegal entrance to the area to build a road that will connect the occupied village of Arsos with an illegal military outpost of the occupation regime.
This is an attempt to seriously violate the status quo. The Cyprus Government is working to prevent such Turkish planning in cooperation with Permanent Members of the Security Council, the EU and UNFICYP, as well as the Greek Government. Contacts are ongoing at the highest level from the international community with Ankara as the recipient, stressing the seriousness of the violation, as well as the negative consequences of such an action, both for the prospect of resuming negotiations on the Cyprus problem and in the Euro-Turkish context.
The Cyprus Government expects the Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus to prevent such plans, in accordance with its terms of reference.
