It is surprising, to say the least, that opposition parties are taking shots at the government for implementing laws that have existed for decades, to their knowledge, regarding pension benefits for those who leave a professional career in the public sector to take public office either by election or appointment.

This legislation has specific and obvious objectives that the Legislature for decades has not questioned or amended.

It is also surprising that today we also hear political forces, whose officials have either been or still are subject to the exact same legislation, see a moral deficit or callousness in others.

The legislature, which is also made up of the parties that are currently critical and together have an overwhelming majority, can if it wishes amend the legislation.

The Government has no problem if there is such a development and is prepared for full disclosure of how and for whom this legislation has been implemented over the years it has been in force.
