The President of the Hellenic Republic, Mr Nicos Christodoulides, had a telephone conversation last night with the Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN), Mr Antonio Guterres.
The conversation between the President of the Republic and the UN Secretary General focused on the current phase of the Cyprus problem and the stated intention of the Secretary General to appoint an envoy to explore the prospects for the resumption of talks on the basis of the agreed framework, with a view to finding a solution to the Cyprus problem.
The President of the Republic reiterated to the UN Secretary General his determination and readiness to resume negotiations, as well as his willingness to work towards achieving a solution to the Cyprus problem, on the basis of the relevant UN resolutions and the principles and values of the European Union.
President Christodoulides also discussed with the UN Secretary General the recent, ongoing violations by the Turkish occupying forces in the buffer zone, stressing the need to end such actions and restore the status of the buffer zone.
The President's telephone conversation with Mr Guterres also addressed the efforts to implement the Republic of Cyprus' initiative to create a maritime corridor for the unimpeded delivery of humanitarian aid to the civilian population of Gaza.
The President of the Republic informed the UN Secretary General about the Republic of Cyprus' planning, as it has developed so far, and about the intention of states to assist in the implementation of this initiative as soon as possible.
