The President of the Hellenic Republic, Mr Nicos Christodoulides, will leave tomorrow morning for the Dead Sea of Jordan, where he will participate in the conference entitled "Call for Action: Urgent Humanitarian Response for Gaza", which will take place on 11 June.

The Conference is co-organised by King Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein of Jordan, President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi of Egypt and United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres and will be attended by, among others, leaders of countries in the region, leaders of donor countries, as well as heads and representatives of international, regional and humanitarian organisations.

The objective of the Conference is to identify ways to strengthen the international community's response to the humanitarian disaster unfolding in Gaza, to outline effective standardized measures and procedures to provide all necessary assistance, to identify operational and logistical needs, and to discuss the coordination required for the recovery of the Gaza Strip.

The Republic of Cyprus has been invited to the Conference both as a country in the region and as a donor country and as the state that conceived, developed and implemented the Amalthea initiative for the Gaza Maritime Aid Corridor.

The Conference will be preceded by Working Group meetings with the participation of representatives of the Republic of Cyprus, during which they will examine issues relating to the operational implications and resources required to maintain the aid corridors, as well as to create conditions conducive to the safe delivery of aid and the protection of civilians.

The High Level Meeting will follow to consider policy approaches for the future situation and will conclude with a communication summarising the results.
