The President of the Hellenic Republic, Mr. Nikos Christodoulides, received a delegation of US Senators at the Presidential Palace this afternoon.
The group of Senators consists of Jerry Moran, Shelley Moore Capito, Deb Fischer, John Hoeven, Kirsten Gillibrand and Congressman Robert Aderholt.
The visit of the American officials to Cyprus took place at a time when the bilateral cooperation relations between the two countries are at an excellent level and is part of their tour of Cyprus, Egypt, Greece, Finland and Sweden.
During the meeting, the President of the Republic briefed on the latest developments in the Cyprus problem and discussed the situation in the Middle East.
The geostrategic role of Cyprus, especially in the light of current geopolitical circumstances, as a pillar of cooperation, stability and security in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East was also highlighted.
Among other things, the President of the Republic also informed about the development of the "Amalthea" initiative of the Republic of Cyprus to provide humanitarian aid to the civilian population of Gaza and about the close cooperation of Cyprus with other states and organisations for the intensification of the initiative, including the USA. He underlined the crucial role that the pier, which the US has built in Gaza, as well as the logistical support provided in the framework of the Amalthea initiative, have played in the provision of humanitarian assistance.
