The President of the Republic Mr.Nicos Christodoulides had a private meeting with the Secretary General of the Council of Europe Mrs.Marija Pejčinović Burić, at the Presidential Palace, during her visit to Cyprus. Subsequently, they attended a working lunch.
During the meeting, they discussed issues related to the agenda of the Council of Europe, the situation in the Cyprus problem and the ongoing efforts to resume negotiations, the humanitarian issue of the missing persons, the management of aspects of Cyprus' Fourth Interstate Complaint against Turkey, the Turkish violations of the status quo of the enclosed city of Famagusta, as well as Piero Fassino's report on Famagusta, adopted at the Spring Session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.
President Christodoulides underlined the need for closer and regular coordination between Cyprus, but also the European Union itself, and the Council of Europe to promote issues related to the principles and values it stands for, and expressed his thanks to Ms Burić for the work she has done as Secretary General in view of the end of her term of office.
