The President of the Republic Mr.Nicos Christodoulides received today, at the Presidential Palace, the Deputy Prime Minister of the Holy See, Archbishop Edgar Peña Parra.
During the meeting, the crisis in the Middle East and the situation in the wider region were discussed.
President Christodoulides referred to the migratory pressure that the Republic of Cyprus is facing from Syrian refugees coming from Lebanon and informed his interlocutors about the initiative of the Republic of Cyprus to transfer humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people.
Archbishop Parra conveyed the Pontiff's greetings to the President of the Republic and referred to the strong ties of the Vatican State with the Republic of Cyprus.
Archbishop Parra was accompanied by Archbishop Giovanni Pietro Dal Toso, Nuncio (Ambassador) of the Holy See to the Republic of Cyprus, based in Amman, and the Holy See's Chargé d'Affaires in Nicosia, Mons. Mauro Lalli.
