The Council of Ministers met today under the chairmanship of President Nicos Anastasiades. The following decisions were taken. The beneficiaries are all mothers, regardless of their employment status, provided that they have resided permanently and legally in the Republic of Cyprus for the five years preceding the birth of the children.
The plan provides for the payment of a lump sum of €1 to cover initial needs.500 for each child.
In addition, it is possible to apply for benefits in line with the Baby Dowry Scheme, including equipment and nappies, depending on the needs of the family, up to a value of €1500 per child.
A particularly important support provision is the allocation of an amount of up to €400 per month to subsidise the purchase of home services by an approved carer or childminder, from the day of birth until the children reach the age of one.
There is also provision for the allocation of an amount for the children's attendance at a nursery/preschool up to the age of four. The payment will be monthly and will be made upon presentation of relevant documents, without retroactive effect.
Details will be announced by the competent Deputy Ministry.
The Council of Ministers also decided to allocate an additional amount of €3,600,000 to grant student allowances to more beneficiaries.
In particular, it was decided to grant a living allowance of €500 to all eligible students due to the shortage of housing. In addition, due to the increase in air ticket prices, it was decided to grant an air ticket allowance of €200 to all eligible students.
The Council of Ministers decided to grant financial assistance up to a maximum total amount of €1,220.500 to affected farmers for damages caused by adverse weather conditions and natural disasters to agricultural crops during the 2021 - 2022 growing season.

In the same context, the Council of Ministers decided to grant, for humanitarian reasons, financial assistance to those affected by extreme weather events and a fire in the Kormakheti community in Kyrenia Province. The assistance concerns a small number of affected people in the occupied community of Kormakitis.
It also decided to grant de minimis aid of €14,055 for 2022 to professional fishermen in the Zygios area, as a compensatory measure for the impact of the construction and operation of the marine fuel loading dock in the area of Vasilikos.
