The President's programme for the coming week includes important activities on a number of critical issues.
The President's agenda includes meetings on issues affecting the Cyprus problem, society and the economy.
On Monday morning, President Anastasiades will meet with the Vice-President of the European Commission, Margaritis Schinas, at the Presidential Palace. The President of the Republic will brief Mr. Schinas on the latest developments in the Cyprus issue, Turkey's provocations and threats, as well as on the MoUs he has submitted and the initiatives he is taking to break the deadlock caused by Turkey's intransigent stance. He will also discuss Cyprus' strategic role in regional security and prosperity, as well as the implementation of the "Cyprus - Tomorrow" plan through which European funds will be drawn from the Recovery and Resilience Fund.
A key parameter of the President of the Republic's discussions with the European Commissioner will be the migration issue, which for the Government has become a high priority issue as Cyprus is the EU country that receives the largest number of migrants in proportion to its population. The President of the Republic will underline that the largest percentage of asylum seekers are persons who are systematically and in an organised manner pushed by Turkey towards the free areas of Cyprus through the occupied territories. This is why the parameters of cooperation with the EU on this issue need to be reviewed, with more involvement and responsibility on the part of the EU.
Subsequently, on Monday afternoon, President Anastasiades will depart for Dubai, for a particularly important visit which will include meetings and consultations that will contribute to the strengthening of bilateral relations between the two countries. The President's visit to the United Arab Emirates takes place on the occasion of the celebrations of Cyprus' National Day at the EXPO 2020 exhibition in Dubai, which is considered the largest trade fair in the world.
President Anastasiades will be accompanied by a large delegation including Ministers, Deputy Ministers, businessmen and officials. On 24 February 2022, President Anastasiades will be a speaker, both at a scheduled event for Cyprus National Day and at a business forum for our country.
Further, on the same day, on the sidelines of EXPO 2020, the Expanded Consultations between Cyprus and the United Arab Emirates will take place, during which ways of enhancing cooperation between the two countries in a number of important areas will be explored.
