[PIO] Written reply by the Government Spokesman Mr Konstantinos Letibiotis to AKEL on the support measures announced by the Government

The AKEL leadership, faithful to its policy of nullifying every decision of the government and deconstructing every effort to support households and businesses, proves once again its inability to recognise what is recorded in the consciousness of society. The measures to support society that have been extended today are a continuation of packages of measures worth hundreds of millions that the Government announced in previous months. It is an oxymoron that the political power, whose effects of their policies on the economy have haunted our country to this day, should judge the state's ability to announce support measures as inadequate.

We will continue with the responsible fiscal policy that allows us to take targeted measures to support society. It is this prudent policy that is leading to successive upgrades of our country's economy, at the same time that our country is experiencing the fastest acceleration in the Eurozone in the entire European Union, while unemployment is projected to remain on a downward trajectory, and inflation is projected to continue to slow down.

We would expect the leadership of AKEL to welcome today's issuance of a seven-year bond by our country, which demonstrates its ability to continue to finance its needs without problems, ensuring the country's long-term economic prospects. The AKEL leadership seems to be reminiscing about economic policies which they themselves followed in the past and which led us out of the markets and to the brink of bankruptcy.
