[PIO] Workshop "Bullying through the eyes of children"

The Observatory on Violence in Schools (PA.VI.S.) of the Cyprus Pedagogical Institute in collaboration with the Directorate of Secondary General Education and the Directorate of Secondary Technical Education and Vocational Training held on Wednesday, 6 March 2024, in Limassol, a Workshop on "Bullying through the eyes of children".

The Workshop was organized in the context of the Panhellenic Day against school violence and bullying, which has been established to be the 6th of March, and aimed to inform, raise awareness and empower teachers and students regarding the phenomenon of school bullying. At the same time, the 141 teachers and students who participated were given the opportunity to raise their concerns.

During the event, the Director of the Pedagogical Institute, Dr. Elena Hadjikakou, gave a speech on behalf of the Minister of Education, Sports and Youth. The keynote speaker was Dr Marios Constantinou, Professor of Psychology at the University of Nicosia. His presentation was entitled "Bullying: from theory to practice". The keynote presentation was followed by a round table discussion, where the audience was given the opportunity to ask questions. The discussion was attended by the Director of the Pedagogical Institute Dr. Elena Hadjikakou, the Inspector of the Counselling and Vocational Education Service (YSEA) Ms. Eleni Papastefanou, the Senior Educational Psychologist from the Educational Psychology Service (YEPS) Dr. Andri Theoklis, the keynote speaker Dr Marios Constantinou, as well as two members of the Adolescent Advisory Team of the Commissioner for Children's Rights, Ms Marilia Theocharous and Ms Korina Constantinou. The discussion was moderated by Mr. Konstantinos Papageorgiou, an official of the P.B.I.S. The European project SAFER was also presented by Ms. Yiota Panagiotou and Ms. Christiana Stavrou, officials of the Pedagogical Institute. The Workshop concluded with four parallel workshops with the simultaneous participation of teachers and students. The workshops were implemented by PA.VI.S., YSEA, YEPS and the Office of the Commissioner for the Protection of Children's Rights.

The Workshop was attended by 96 children and 45 teachers from 26 schools from Limassol District and Paphos District. The workshop was attended by students from secondary schools, high schools and technical schools.
