9th Sports Week #BeActive, 23-30 September 2023
A special note today at the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth (MESY). The Secondary Education Physical Education Inspectorate organised an exercise for all Ministry staff as part of the European Sports Week, #BeActive, whose activities are supported and coordinated by the Cyprus Sports Organisation. In an event full of rhythm and energy, around 150 staff members of the Ministry of Education and Youth exercised with tires, danced and received a positive message on the adoption of physical activity as a way of life.
The Minister of Education, Sports and Youth, Mrs. Athena Michaelidou, who actively participated in the programme, addressed the participants and stressed the value of exercise for health and said that for the Ministry of Education and Youth, every day is an exercise day in schools and not only the European School Sport Day, which this year is celebrated on Friday 29 September. "Through an active lifestyle at school," said Ms Michaelidou, "children and teenagers learn to love movement, so that they can adopt it in their everyday life in later life."
For his part, the Head of the Sports and Culture Sector of Secondary Education, Mr Spyros Antonellos, thanked the Inspectorate and the Physical Education Office for organising the event.
Apart from the Minister of Education, Sports and Youth, the event was attended by the Director General of the Ministry of Education, Ms Marina Kasapi, the Director General of the CTO Ms Mary Papamiltiades, the member of the Board of Directors of the CTO and Ambassador of #Be Active Ms Kalli Hatzijiosif, First Officers of Education, Inspectors of all specialties and officials of all levels of education. The staff of the Ministry of National Security exercised under the instructions of the Physical Education teacher Mr. Elias Mavrommatis.
