The Department of Environment of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, informs the public that, following an on-site assessment in cooperation with the Game and Wildlife Service, has granted permission to the Paralimni Irrigation Committee of Paralimni for the removal of the earthen dike in the outflow channel of Paralimni Lake, which is a Natura 2000 site, for the purpose of enriching the irrigation dams in the area, following a request from the said Committee..
The permit is valid for 10 days with the possibility of renewal for a further 10 days and the discharges are monitored. The request of the Irrigation Committee is made over time and evaluated accordingly, taking into account the rainfall of each year.
It is noted that the period during which this permit is granted is the most appropriate and the conservation objectives of the Special Conservation Area and Special Protection Area are not affected, since the needs of both the waterfowl and the birds that nest in the area are not affected.
The Environment Department in cooperation with the Game and Wildlife Service and the Water Development Department are closely monitoring the situation.
