Natasha Pilidou: February and March announcements[/B][/I]The first business support grant schemes

Contacts and meetings are planned to find ways to expand and create new artisanal areas in communities within the Bases, in collaboration with other relevant Ministries.

Industrial units located within the British Bases in the Free Famagusta area were visited yesterday, Friday, 11 February 2022, by the Minister of Energy, Trade and Industry (YEEB), Ms Natasha Pilidou. The Minister's contacts with both businessmen and community leaders and representatives of community councils focused on the challenges they face, the search for solutions and the prospects for further development of business activity in the region and its transition to green growth.

Mrs. Pileidou was accompanied by Mr. Kyriakos Hatzigiannis, Chairman of the Committee on Energy, Trade, Industry and Tourism of the Parliament, Mr. Theodosis Tsiolas, Head of the General Directorate of Development of the Ministry of Finance, Mr. Marios Panagidis, Director General of the Ministry of Economy, Mr. Christos Fotiadis, Director of the Department of Industry and Technology, as well as representatives of KEBE and OEB.

As was evident from the discussion, the industries located within the British Bases offer professional rehabilitation to a not inconsiderable number of residents from the periphery, including many young people, thus supporting the effort to keep the population in the countryside and maintain the social fabric of the communities.

A key demand of the communities and entrepreneurs is the expansion or creation of new industrial areas, which will provide the opportunity to secure space for small and medium-sized enterprises. As the Minister pointed out, the objective of the Ministry is, in cooperation with all partners, to help address the issues that hamper the smooth operation of businesses so that the industrial sector continues to be a stable pillar of development for the region. Contacts and meetings are already underway to find ways to expand and create new industrial areas in cooperation with other relevant Ministries.

Ms. Pileidou also called on the region's industrialists and entrepreneurs, as well as the community authorities, to proceed with their studies so that, when the Ministry's grant schemes for energy upgrading of businesses with a budget of €35 million and for energy upgrading of local authorities with a budget of €9 million are announced next month,

The Minister also referred to the launch of a special grant scheme, in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture, for the use of photovoltaic panels in the agricultural sector. The main objective of the project is to reduce the cost of pumping irrigation water. The project will be announced this year.

Ms. Pileidou informed that, in February, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development is also proceeding with the announcement of the sponsorship project for the modernization and digital upgrading of processing and marketing units of agricultural products. The total amount allocated for the needs of the call is €25 million.The Project will be presented at an online event next Wednesday 16/2/2022, which can be followed by interested parties on the Ministry's YouTube channel.

Ms. Pileidou visited four industries within the British Bases. 'Kouzaris and Sons' in the Ormidea industrial area, which operates in the marble and granite sector; 'Georgios Tsappis' in Achna, which processes by-products of plant and animal origin for the production of animal feed, the plant for the production of milk, halloumi and other dairy products 'Achnagal' in Dasaki Achna and 'Tementotechniki' in Xylotympou, an industry for the production of prefabricated cement products.
