The Minister of Education, Sports and Youth, Mrs Athina Michaelidou, visited today the 3rd Primary School of Aglantzia on the occasion of the start of the school year in primary education.
In the context of her visit, Mrs Michaelidou in her statements to journalists said: "Today we also welcomed the primary school children. At this particular primary school, we welcomed most of all the children of the first grade, who usually come with feelings of anxiety and quite a lot with their parents.
It is important for us that all children, especially primary school children, come to school happy, stay happy, that we can diagnose any problems in time, that we can support the children and as a ministry, but especially their teachers.
I wish the children a good and creative year this year. Depending on their abilities, each and every one of them can grow, develop and cultivate the skills and abilities that are needed today.
Primary school offers, is the basis, for so many programs and activities that will strengthen the child on his or her way to school.
It is important that children's days at school are happy and creative, that they remember them with nostalgia, as I remember my school years at this school.
I would like to add that this year we are making a dynamic start with new programmes in primary education in which we are investing in order to have better results in the future, both in terms of learning and children's behaviour. Because we are also talking about skills, abilities, attitudes and life values, which we are trying to pass on to them," the Education Minister noted.
Asked if schools all over Cyprus are ready to welcome the children, Michailidou said: "In the very large majority everything is ready: staffing, books and building issues. There and where there are small issues and they can be seen in these first days, we are ready to deal with them. I think we are making a very positive start."
