[PIO] Visit of the Minister of Education, Sports and Youth, Dr Athina Michailidou, to the Pancyprian Lyceum of Larnaca

The Minister of Education, Sports and Youth, Dr Athina Michaelidou, visited yesterday, together with her colleagues, the Pancyprian Lyceum of Larnaca, following an invitation from the school's management. As part of her visit, she had a meeting with all stakeholders with whom she discussed various issues facing the school. It was decided to proceed immediately with the establishment of a Museum of the Pancyprian Lyceum of Larnaca, in the area of the neoclassical preserved building, in order to highlight the historicity of the school and the history of Cypriot education. The Museum will be interconnected with the educational process through the curricula and will be open to the public. Already, the school has prepared relevant material, continuing the work that preceded the creation of the booklet on the 100 years of the school's operation, as well as infrastructure.

Furthermore, the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth (MESY) has granted funds to the Larnaca School Ephorate to promote the request for the fencing works at the school, after a relevant study by an architect. The construction of a multipurpose room will be included in the plans of the Ministry of Education. Issues concerning the programmes for pupils with an immigrant biography were also discussed and suggestions were heard, which will be taken into account in the effort to improve these programmes.

In relation to the projects underway in Larnaca, the Ministry of Public Works informs that general improvements are being made at the Evriviadeio High School at a cost of 5.3 million. At Agios Georgios Primary School the replacement of the canteen and sanitary facilities is underway, at a cost of € 305,000.00. It is also noted that the Ministry of National Economy granted a grant of €413,000.00 to the Larnaca Ephorate for maintenance, improvement and extension works at the Pancyprian Lyceum of Larnaca (Fencing) and the Special School of Agios Spyridon (Extension).

Projects are also planned for the Vergina Larnaca Lyceum (instructions have already been given to the Larnaca School Ephorate to prepare specifications for the gradual maintenance of the school) and the Drosia Gymnasium (seismic upgrading). The Ministry of National Economy has launched its decision for the construction of a new standard STEM- Sports and Music High School in the area of the former Transnellian Technical School. In addition, the Construction of a New St Lazarus Technical School - Green Professions for €33 million and the Construction of a New Regional Kindergarten and Primary School in the area of Livadia - Oroklini has been advertised and is in the process of tender evaluation and the Construction of a New Regional Kindergarten and Primary School in the area of Livadia - Oroklini has been decided.
