The Head of Humanitarian Affairs for Missing and Trapped Persons Ms Anna Aristotelous paid a visit to the villages of Karpasia, as part of the channel of communication opened with the stranded and resettled in our occupied villages, whom the President of the Republic from the very first moment supported and continues to support with various practical actions at various levels.
Mrs Aristotelous visited the only Greek Cypriot couple who have been living in Agios Andronikos since 1974, keeping the entire village alive with their presence. The 97-year-old Andreas and 85-year-old Milia Christofis never left their home for a minute, regardless of the difficulties they have experienced over the years.
The visit took place in the context of the President of the Republic's policy of a people-centred approach to the problems faced by our internally displaced persons and the communication that the Head of State wants to develop and maintain with each of our internally displaced persons. The two unique internees of St. Andronicus conveyed to Ms. Aristotelous the adversities they face, while asking for the improvement of their feeding conditions, with the Head of Humanitarian Affairs of Missing and Internally Displaced Persons making immediate representations in order to meet their demands.
Further, Ms. Aristotelous assured the couple that the President of the Republic and her Service stand by all the internally displaced persons whose sacrifices keep alive the presence of Greek Cypriots in our occupied villages, recognizing the difficulties they have faced and continue to face.
In particular, Mrs Aristotelous visited the villages of Karpasia Rizokarpaso, Agia Triada, Agios Andronikos and Agios Therissos, accompanied by the Mayor of Anavrysi Mr Michalis Mikellis and the Mayor of Agios Andronikos Mrs Stella Fisentzou. She met with stranded and resettled residents in their places of residence - she visited the distribution area of food sent through the United Nations -, who conveyed to her their requests and expressed their thanks to the President of the Republic and to her for the actions taken so far, which have contributed to the improvement of their living conditions.
The Head of State assured the stranded and resettled people that actions to support them in every possible way will continue, promising at the same time that she will continue her personal visits so that each of the residents of our occupied villages will have the opportunity to convey their concerns and worries to her.
Mrs. Aristotelous, accompanied by the Commanders of Anavrisi and Agios Andronikos, visited the Monastery of Apostolos Andreas, the abandoned church of Agia Fotini in Agios Andronikos, the church of Agia Triada, as well as the church in Agios Therissos.
During her visit to the Holy Monastery of Apostolos Andreas, she met with Father Zacharias - who for so many years has kept the churches of Karpasia alive - and his wife, to whom she conveyed the support and thanks of the President of the Republic.
