The Department of Fisheries and Marine Research (DFA) had a bilateral meeting with the Executive Director (ED) of the European Fisheries Control Agency (EFA), which took place on 16 January 2024 in Cyprus.

During the meeting, the Director of the TATF pointed out that this comes a few months after the EIF patrol boat landed in the area of the Eastern Levantine and the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) of the Republic of Cyprus, which is very important and can be a focal point for further cooperation on fisheries control in the area both at bilateral level with the EIF and at EU level in the framework of the Joint Fisheries Control Programme.

During the meeting, issues related to fisheries control, the Joint Control Programme for 2024 and general issues related to our further cooperation in this area were discussed.

The Executive Director of EYEA had the opportunity to visit and be briefed on the national fisheries control systems, the patrol vessels and infrastructure of the National Fisheries Control Agency, as well as the state-of-the-art and well-equipped National Search and Rescue Coordination Centre (NRCC).
