As part of the visits of the Deputy Minister of Social Welfare Ms Marilena Evangelou to Day Care Centres and Service Centres, the Deputy Minister attended today the "Iris" Service Centre of the Association for the Welfare of People with Intellectual Disabilities.
The Deputy Minister had the opportunity to talk with the Chairman of the Board of Directors Mr. Stavros Stavrou and the executive team of the Association for the Welfare of Persons with Intellectual Disabilities, the employees of the "Iris" Service Centre, as well as the adults with disabilities served.
Ms. Evangelou congratulated the Association for the remarkable work it does, offering services to people with severe forms of disability and expressed the support of the Government of Nicos Christodoulides on issues concerning persons with disabilities. He referred to the recent decision of the Council of Ministers to purchase five houses, which will be erected by the COAG and purchased by the Department of Social Integration of Persons with Disabilities. The service project will be awarded to private sector contractors through a public tender, fully funded by the Recovery and Resilience Plan. These residences will meet the needs and wishes of the beneficiary adults with disabilities and will be made available as 24-hour care residences for the design and operation of independent living support services programs.
In this context, he called on all relevant agencies to take advantage of the opportunities provided through the Recovery and Resilience Plan, in order to achieve, through synergies, the upgrading of the services provided to our fellow citizens in need.

He also assured that the Government and the Deputy Ministry of Social Welfare stand by Persons with Disabilities and their families and the National Disability Strategy for the decade 2018-2028, as well as the 3-year National Disability Action Plans are directed in this direction. Finally, he informed that the procedures for the formulation of the next National Action Plan have already started.
