The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mrs. Anita Demetriou received today the Rector of the Athens School of Fine Arts (ASFA), Mrs.
The Speaker of the Parliament congratulated Mrs Chatzisavva on her election, underlining that the assumption of this high office for the first time by a woman academic, especially a Cypriot, is a special honour for our country. Ms Demetriou referred to the important role that the fine arts must play in the development and progress of every society and underlined the importance that every state must attach to the exercise of active cultural diplomacy.
Mrs. Hadjisavva informed the Speaker of the Parliament about the problems faced by Cypriot students and graduates of the ASFA, which mainly concern the insufficient utilization of this very high level of human potential, as well as the artistic work they produce abroad.
The Speaker of the Parliament expressed her readiness to contribute in every possible way to the search for solutions to the problems faced by the cultural sector in Cyprus. In this context, views were exchanged on possible ways of cooperation between the House of Representatives and the ASFA in order to support and promote the work of Cypriot artists who have a career in Greece.
