The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mrs. Mr. Nikos Sergidis and a delegation of this organization, in the context of which he had the opportunity to be informed about the close cooperation of the organization with the corresponding Greek organization, as well as with the Commissioner for the Presidency, as well as about the work carried out in the Committee of Inquiry on Missing Persons (CMP).
For his part, the President of the organisation informed the Speaker of the Parliament about the need for the United Nations to support the ICRC in order to carry out its work, since the biggest problem is the time that has elapsed, with the relatives of the missing persons dying without the fate of their loved ones being determined. A key aspect of the problem is the refusal of the other side to indicate burial and removal sites for the remains of the missing persons.
The President of the Parliament stated that the issue of the missing persons is the most tragic aspect of the Cyprus problem as an issue that must be placed above any political expediency, assuring that within her own powers she will make representations to the Council of Europe, both through the special committee of Members of Parliament participating in it and personally through a letter, in which she will stress the humanitarian aspect of the whole issue and the need to provide the necessary information on the issue of the missing persons, which should be placed under the supervision of the Council of Europe. She also expressed her readiness to cooperate with the office of the Commissioner for the Presidency and to make contacts with the Greek side to shake up the issue, stressing that time is the greatest enemy to the effective investigation of the fate of the missing persons.
