[PIO] The Speaker of the House of Representatives received the High Commissioner of India at a farewell meeting

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mrs Anita Demetriou, received today the High Commissioner of India to Cyprus, Mrs Madhumita Hazarika Baghat, on the occasion of the completion of her mandate.

Ms Demetriou expressed her gratitude for the excellent cooperation with Ms Baghat as well as her appreciation for India's principled stance and long-standing support to the efforts to resolve the Cyprus problem. Moreover, the Speaker stressed the commitment of the Greek Cypriot side to the efforts to resume negotiations within the agreed framework and in accordance with the resolutions of the United Nations, with a view to the reunification of Cyprus.

Referring to the long-standing friendly relations between the two countries, the Indian High Commissioner reaffirmed India's unreserved support and principled stand on the Cyprus problem. Ms Baghat thanked Ms Demetriou for the excellent cooperation with her and the other Members of the House during her term of office, underlining the important contribution of the House of Representatives in further deepening and broadening the relations of cooperation and solidarity between Cyprus and India, especially at the inter-parliamentary level.
