The opening of the outdoor space and playground of the Larnaca Children's Home was held yesterday, 23 September 2022, by the Deputy Minister of Social Welfare, Ms Anastasia Anthoussi, who referred to the big bet that the Deputy Ministry is called upon to win in order to upgrade the care and protection of children.
As Ms Anthoussi noted, the creation of a playground and the landscaping of the exterior of the Children's Home aims to improve the quality of the structure, and to create spaces where children staying at the Home can be entertained, play sports and develop their skills. It was, the Deputy Minister said, a promise we made to the children, which we are keeping, giving them joy and happy moments.
The action falls within the Government's broader plan to upgrade structures and modernize the way the State's social services operate. Particular emphasis is placed on child care structures, with a view to enhancing the availability of quality care and social development structures for children.
Ms Anthousi expressed special thanks to the State Services, especially the Director and Officers of the Social Welfare Services, who worked for the completion of the project. Referring to the volunteers and sponsors of the effort, the Deputy Minister praised their contribution and support in completing the project, describing them as valuable partners of the Ministry of State.
Under the motto "Together We Can", similar initiatives are being launched in the Children's Homes of the other Provinces, so that all children residing in these structures have options for sports and entertainment available to them.
