The event will include a Photo Exhibition with 26 photographs from the CTI Archive and the official first screening of the CTI film "Operation Museum". The film, which was created with the cooperation and contribution of the Deputy Ministry of Culture and in particular the Department of Antiquities, is a shocking account of the gigantic effort to save the exhibits of the Cyprus Museum during the Turkish invasion of 1974.
The opening ceremony will be attended by the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr. Nikos Christodoulides.
The event will also include the presentation of an unaltered photographic exhibition produced by the CMP in 1975, as it travelled abroad at the time in the framework of the activities for the enlightenment of Cyprus, as well as a collector's edition of the CMP for the 50th anniversary of the Turkish invasion and occupation, consisting of 110 photographs from the CMP archive.
There will also be screenings of Cypriot artists' accounts of how the Turkish invasion affected their artistic career, as recorded in the context of the GMP's production "Art in the City".
The aim of the event is to invite the Cypriot and international audience on a historical journey guided by art, reminding them that the Cyprus problem remains open.
The activities to mark the 50th anniversary of the Turkish invasion and occupation, which will be organised in Cyprus and abroad, are coordinated by the ad hoc committee set up for this purpose. The committee is chaired by the Deputy Minister of Culture and includes the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Government Spokesperson, the Director of the General Secretariat of Culture, as well as representatives of the Deputy Ministry of Culture, the Ministries of Education, Sports and Youth, Foreign Affairs, Finance and the Press and Information Office.
