President of the Hellenic Republic Nicos Christodoulides will have a meeting with Pope Francis I at the Holy See this morning.
President Christodoulides, accompanied by his wife Mrs. Philippa Carcera Christodoulides and members of the Cypriot delegation, will go to the Apostolic Palace in Vatican City, where he will be received by the Swiss Guard.
He will then have a private meeting with His Holiness Pope Francis, followed by a meeting in the presence of the Cypriot delegation.
This is the first meeting of President Christodoulides with the Primate of the Roman Catholic Church, which takes place on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Cyprus and the Holy See.
Afterwards, President Christodoulides will meet with the Prime Minister of the Holy See, Cardinal Parolin.
Immediately afterwards, the President of the Republic and his entourage will be shown around the Apostolic Palace.
Subsequently, the President of the Republic will proceed to the Sovereign Order of Malta, where he will receive an official welcome and have a meeting with the Grand Maestro and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Order. At the end of the reception, a Postal Agreement will be signed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus and the Minister of Finance of the Order. Konstantinos Letibiotis, the Ambassador of the Republic to the Holy See Mr. George Poullidis, the Director of the President's Diplomatic Office Ms. Marilena Raouna and officials.
President Christodoulides and his entourage return to Cyprus tonight.
