[PIO] The President of the Republic will address the Plenary Assembly of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe

The President of the Republic Mr.Nicos Christodoulides is leaving today for Strasbourg, where tomorrow, 23 January, he will address the Plenary Session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE).

In the margins of his address, President Christodoulides will also hold meetings with Council of Europe (CoE) officials.

Specifically, tomorrow morning the President will attend a working breakfast with the Cypriot and Greek MPs participating in the CSCE, and will then proceed to the building of the CoE, where he will sign the visitors' book.

This will be followed by private meetings of the President of the Republic, after the electoral procedures for the election of the new leadership of the Assembly have taken place, with the outgoing and the new President of the CACE. He will also have a meeting with the General Secretary of the CSE.

Afterwards, the President of the Republic will attend a lunch hosted in his honour by the newly elected President of the CSE.

At 15:30 Cyprus time, President Christodoulides will address the Plenary Session of the CSE and answer questions from MPs/representatives of the party groups.

In his speech before the Plenary of the CACE, the President of the Republic will refer, among other things, to the current phase of the Cyprus problem and the new effort that is starting after the appointment of the UN Secretary General's Envoy, as well as to the role of the international actor in the efforts to resolve it, as well as to regional developments and the important role of the CoE in defending human rights, democracy and the rule of law.

Later, the President of the Republic will visit the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), where he will have a meeting with the President of the Court, Ms Síofra O'Leary, while in the evening, the President of the Republic will attend a reception hosted in his honour by the Permanent Representation of the Republic in Strasbourg.

President Christodoulides, who will be accompanied by the Government Spokesman, Mr. Mr. Constantinos Letibiotis, the Deputy Director of the President's Diplomatic Office Mr. Doros Venezis and officials, will return to Cyprus on 24 January.
