The President of the Republic Mr.Nicos Christodoulides received today, at the Presidential Palace, the Chief of the National Guard, Lieutenant General Demokritos Zervakis, in the presence of the Minister of Defence Mr.
The meeting was customary in light of the extension of the term of office of the Chief of the National Guard until the end of June 2023.
During the meeting, President Christodoulides said that what has been achieved in the National Guard in recent years is very important and deserves recognition.
He also expressed confidence that, in the next period of his term of office, the Chief of the National Guard will also cooperate closely with the new Minister of Defence, noting that the goal is common.
During the meeting, the Minister of Defence signed the relevant extension.
The extension of the appointment of Lieutenant General Zervakis is aimed at the continuation of the smooth operation of the National Guard and the uninterrupted completion of the procedures until the appointment of a new Chief of the National Guard.
During the meeting, Lieutenant General Zervakis thanked the President of the Republic for reaffirming the confidence of both himself and the State in him.
He also expressed thanks to the former and current Minister of Defence, the Deputy Chief of Defence and the members of the National Guard, as well as the military and civilian personnel for their excellent and constructive cooperation.
