[PIO] The President of the Republic received at the EXPO 2020 International Exhibition in Dubai

The President of the Republic Mr Nicos Anastasiades received a warm welcome today at the EXPO202020 International Exhibition in Dubai, where he was accompanied by his wife Mrs Andri Anastasiades and a large ministerial delegation.

President Anastasiades was received at the exhibition site, where International Cyprus Day is being celebrated, by the Minister of Tolerance and Governor of Dubai Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, who stressed that the UAE looks forward to working with Cyprus for the further mutual development of the two countries.

He also praised Cyprus' achievements, noting its important geographical location which makes it a centre of investment and a tourist destination.

For his part, the President of the Republic said, inter alia, that in the effort to consolidate peace, particularly in our region, Cyprus is building strategic alliances on the basis of shared values and collective vision, as well as common interests with countries such as the UAE.

He also expressed confidence that the excellent relations between Cyprus and the UAE will be further strengthened, noting that close friendship and cooperation are entering a more dynamic phase in a multitude of areas.

During the reception event, the National Anthems of Cyprus and the UAE were played, while a musical programme of Cypriot wedding songs by the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra took place.

Subsequently, the President of the Republic visited the Cyprus Pavilion at the exhibition, where he briefly said, among other things, that he was at the Dubai exhibition in recognition of the efforts of the Emirati side to strengthen bilateral relations with Cyprus and the opportunities that are opening up for their further strengthening.

He added that he is in Dubai with nine Ministers and Deputy Ministers which proves the importance the Cyprus Government attaches to the development of relations with the UAE, noting that the effort is to develop connectivity between the two countries, which will lead, among other things, to further boost tourism in the two countries.
