The President of the Hellenic Republic, Mr Nicos Christodoulides, met last night at the Presidential Palace with the Chief of Staff of the US National Security Council, Mr Curtis Ried, who handed him a letter from US President Joe Biden.
In his letter, the US President praised, among other things, the leadership, vision and determination of President Christodoulides for the implementation of the extremely important maritime corridor for the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza from Cyprus.
Expressing his country's readiness to actively support Cyprus in implementing the Amalthea initiative, President Biden assured that "as we move forward with this initiative, the United States stands ready to work with you to manage the complexities of this undertaking."
Finally, he highlighted the fact that he has directed the U.S. military to lead an emergency mission to establish a temporary dock on the Gaza coast to facilitate and enhance the delivery of humanitarian assistance intended for the civilian population in Gaza.
