President Christodoulides referred to Jordan and Egypt as pillars of peace and stability in the region, stressing that the continuation and escalation of the situation in Gaza will directly affect these countries and will have far-reaching and unpredictable regional consequences. Therefore, he added, their call for further support and enhanced donor coordination and effectiveness must be heeded.
The President noted that Cyprus as a neighbouring country and as the European Union (EU) member state closest to the region had a responsibility and moral duty to act to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and that it was for this reason that the maritime humanitarian corridor was created to provide humanitarian assistance to those in need in Gaza.

President Christodoulides further stated."
He also pointed out that land routes, such as the Rafah crossing, are irreplaceable and should be allowed to operate unhindered and condemned the expanded military operations in Rafah, which he said could have irreversible and devastating consequences.
The President then expressed his gratitude for the contribution of the European Commission and the United Arab Emirates, adding that the support of all partners was vital for the corridor to open and function effectively. The President then personally thanked the United Nations (UN) Senior Humanitarian Aid and Reconstruction Coordinator for Gaza, Ms Sigrid Kaag, stressing that her support and assistance, through the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 2720, had facilitated the flow of humanitarian aid to Gaza. She called on all stakeholders to support her work.
"While we hope that the roadmap for an immediate ceasefire and the release of hostages will be accepted and implemented, we also know that the road to reconstruction and recovery does not stop there. The ceasefire will only be the beginning of the enormous effort for reconstruction," President Christodoulides said, adding that, for this reason, in addition to the establishment of a direct maritime humanitarian corridor to Gaza, this year we will again significantly increase our contribution to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), whose services in Gaza and throughout the region are essential and must be continued and strengthened.
In conclusion, President Christodoulides stressed that the only path to a viable solution is the revival of the two-state solution, in line with UN resolutions, and that there is no other option but to create the conditions for the resumption of a meaningful peace process.
