The President of the Republic Mr.Nicos Christodoulides met today with Patriarch Porphyry of Serbia at the Patriarchate of Serbia in Belgrade.
During the meeting, the Serbian Patriarch warmly welcomed the President of the Republic and the members of the Cypriot delegation, stressing that the Serbian Patriarchate maintains fraternal relations with the Cypriot people and the Cypriot Church.
For his part, the President of the Republic said that "nine months after I took office, my presence here is an indication of the importance we attach to our excellent relations with Serbia."
I know your struggle. We have similar concerns in our occupied territories, with the destruction of our religious heritage, which in 2023 is unacceptable.
The Republic of Cyprus strongly supports Serbia's positions and I am here with three ministers to send a message - but it is not only symbolic importance, it is also essential - to see how we are working to further strengthen our relations."
