The President of the Hellenic Republic, Mr.Nikos Christodoulides, met today at the Huis ten Bosch Palace in The Hague, The Netherlands, with King Willem-Alexander.
President Christodoulides had the meeting with the King this afternoon, as part of his one-day working visit to the Netherlands.
On the President's arrival at the Palace, a procession paid respects and was then received by King Willem-Alexander, with whom he had a meeting.
The meeting covered, among other things, developments in the Cyprus problem, the situation in the Middle East and Ukraine, issues relating to the exchange of experience between Cyprus and the Netherlands on water management issues - a subject of particular interest to the King of the Netherlands - as well as issues relating to the European agenda, such as the future of Europe.
Subsequently, the President of the Republic signed the Palace Guest Book. In the Palace Visitors' Book, the President of the Republic wrote the following:
"It is with real pleasure that I am visiting the Kingdom of the Netherlands for the first time in my capacity as President of the Republic of Cyprus, almost a year after my election. It is also a great honour to meet H.M. King Willem-Alexander here at the Huis ten Bosch Palace.
This visit reaffirms that our two countries enjoy special, cordial and friendly relations, both at the bilateral level and at the European and multilateral level.
I am personally proud that our two countries, member states of our common European family, are committed to upholding common universal and irreplaceable principles and values, a fact particularly important in these turbulent times.
I am also delighted that my visit to The Hague today and my meeting with His Majesty gave us the opportunity to discuss how we can give further impetus to relations between our countries to further strengthen them for the benefit of our peoples."
